DAY 1 – Cusco TO NAIHUA
We will leave Cusco in our private transport and after crossing the Andes for 4 hours, we will arrive at the put-in in the town of Naihua (2,600 msnm / 8,530 ft). After lunch and receiving the equipment, we will have a safety talk and be given the instructions for the expedition. We will run a short class III rapids section for a couple of hours until we reach our first campsite.
DAYS 2 AND 3 – APURIMAC RIVER
After enjoying our delicious breakfast, we shall observe the vegetation surrounding our campsite. We will then start paddling on class III and IV rapids, make a portage and enter into the spectacular white granite canyon. We will also enjoy milder sections. With some luck, we will be able to observe some river otters, deer, foxes, torrent ducks and Andean birds. We will have lunch in sandy beaches and go through a number of hanging bridges. We will also get to the Santo Tomás river. Campsite and dinner will be in sandy beaches.
DAY 4 – APURIMAC RIVER - CUSCO
Today, we will run class III and IV rapids with names such as “The Other Right” and “The Three Condors”, amongst others. We will have lunch at take-out, enjoy some cold drinks and meet our transport that will take us back to Cusco and the hotel. |
