DAY 1 – Cusco – HUALLPACHACA
We leave Cusco in our private transport driving approx. 4 to 5 hours, until we reach Huallpachaca bridge (2,100 msnm / 6,890 ft). Here we will have lunch and set up the necessary equipment in the rafts, this will be followed by a safety talk. We will paddle for one hour along class III and IV rapids until we reach our first campsite.
DAY 2 AND 3 – APURIMAC RIVER DESCENT
From this location we will enter the deepest part of the canyon and one of the most spectacular parts of this expedition. We will gradually increase the difficulty level to class III and IV rapids, passing through gigantic granite walls with enormous rocks that have eroded over millions of years. There will be two portages and we will run rapids such as “The purgatory”, “Space Odyssey”, and “The Labyrinth”, among others. The campsites will be set upon beautiful sandy beaches where your lunch will be served. Fingers crossed we may even see some wildlife.
DAY 4 – Apurímac RIVER - Cusco
On the final day we will run the famous rapid “Tooth ache” and other class IV and V, like “Babalua” and “The last smile”. Afterwards, we will run a series of class II and III rapids until we reach our take-out at Primavera Hacienda (1,900 msnm / 6,234 ft). After a few cold drinks and lunch we will depart in our transport and return to Cusco. |
