8 DAYS / 7 NIGHTS

DAY 1: CUSCO - SACRED VALLEY
We meet in the city of Cusco, where our private transport takes us to Chinchero. After a short visit around the village and its handicraft market we head to the point where we’ll prepare our bikes for the first route. This is an easygoing acclimatizing stretch, beginning at 3,800 masl (12,467 ft) along a wide path, mostly downhill, but with a few gentle slopes. We’ll bike along by Huaypo lake and see multicolored cultivated fields, followed by the ruins at Moray and the Maras salt pans, completing the route down a moderately technical descent that will take us to the Sacred Valley. Picnic lunch will be en route. Transport to the hotel in the Sacred Valley.

DAY 2: ALONG THE SACRED VALLEY
After breakfast we head for the ruins at Pumamarca, the archeological center where Inca and Pre-Inca ruins coexist. From there we begin on an hour’s descent along a technically demanding beaten paths crossing Andean terraces down to the village of Ollantaytambo. After a tour along its ancient Inca streets, we continue on a gently sloping bridle path along the Urubamba river, with a spectacular view of the Verónica snow-capped mountain and other mountains of the Urubamba mountain range. We’ll cover the beginning of the famous Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, along paths that are sometimes narrow and sometimes wide. On the way we’ll meet with our vehicle at the access points and have a picnic lunch.

DAY 3: LARES
After a very early breakfast we’ll head for the Lares mountain pass, from where we start a descent down an ancient Inca trail for approximately an hour and a half, followed by an uphill stretch of about 30 minutes (4 km), up to the community of Quishuarani at 3,800 masl (12,467 ft). From this point we initiate a two hour uphill trek up to a mountain pass at 4,200 masl (13,779 ft), with porters to carry our bikes and horses for those who don’t want to walk. From the mountain pass we get on our bikes again and make a long, approximately three hour descent down a spectacular bridle path. We’ll be able to see enormous glaciers along this route, as well as high Andean lakes impressively colorful; it is always possible to spot a great variety of native birds and mammals. At the end of the day we’ll take a comforting hot spring bath next to our camp. Box lunches and camping is by the medicinal hot springs in Lares. If the group prefers, instead of the trek up to the mountain pass, we can go down to Lares, and continue in this same valley along a two-hour stretch. Camping is in the medicinal hot springs in Lares

DAY 4: VALLEY OF LARES
After breakfast we pedal from our camp for about two hours, along a highly enjoyable up slope and down slope stretch along one of the  hillsides of the valley of Lares, which little by little descends into the  jungle. At a pre-determined point we get on the road and put the bikes into our vehicle that will take us again to a mountain pass at 4,200 masl (13,779 ft). From there, we’ll make our long 3-hour descent along a spectacular Inca trail, into a narrow ravine that will take us back to the Sacred Valley through cultivated fields. Transport to the hotel.

DAY 5: MÁLAGA MOUNTAIN PASS
After breakfast our vehicle takes us to the Málaga mountain pass at 4,400 masl (14,435 ft). From this point we’ll make our descent down a highly technical bridle path, down the same route of the internationally famous “Mega Avalanche” downhill competition held yearly. We’ll descend about 1,600 m (5,249 ft) and arrive at the Sacred Valley, very close to Ollantaytambo. If there is time. it’s possible to continue pedaling by the river Urubamba, along a bridle path that gives way to the famous Inca Trail that leads to Machu Picchu.

DAY 6: CUSCO TO PUNO
We leave Cusco heading to Puno early in our private transport. On the way we’ll take a detour that will take us to the Tarucani mountain pass, from where we’ll begin our descent through the world’s greatest forest of Puya Raimondii, considered the biggest inflorescence in the world. Growing over 40 feet tall, it flowers only once every hundred years. We’ll bike along beaten tracks, first downhill and then a flat stretch until we reach Tinajani. We go into a canyon with impressive rock formations, continue along platforms of sloping rock and explore some of the many adjacent little canyons. At this point we put our bikes back into our vehicle that will take us to Lampa to overnight in a charming colonial hotel.

DAY 7: ALONG THE SHORES OF LAKE TITICACA
After a brief visit to Lampa, a historically important town during Spanish  dominion, we head for the Chuchito peninsula, where we’ll ride along  bridle paths bordering  the shores of Lake Titicaca, passing through beautiful beaches, rock formations and cliffs that blend beautifully against the typical landscape and croplands of the Altiplano.
